Looking for an alternative to traditional oatmeal breakfasts for your little ones? My girls love to eat oatmeal, but to mix things up from time to time I love to discover new grains. Quinoa is an ingredient I look for when purchasing fruit and veggie pouches for snack time, but I’ve never actually made it as a dish before. Adding different textures to their meals now will allow them to explore new flavors and hopefully avoid picky and fussy eaters down the road. The great thing about making this Blueberry Quinoa breakfast bowl is that you can switch things up quite easily by mixing in different fruits they already love. This will make the transition to quinoa a much smoother one. Try the quinoa bowl with slices of banana and chocolate chips. What kid can resist chocolate chips?
Blueberry Quinoa Breakfast Bowl Ingredients:
In a small sauce pan whisk milk, cinnamon and vanilla. Bring it to a slight boil. Divide the cooked quinoa between two small cups or bowls. Pour the hot milk mixture in each cup until you reach your desired consistency. Mix honey into each portion. Add blueberries, other favorite fruit and/or shredded coconut. I usually allow the finished dish to sit for 5 minutes, giving it time to cool down. This makes the dish thicker, as the quinoa absorbs a little of the milk.
Having extra time in the mornings on weekends makes putting together a delicious and healthy breakfast a breeze! You can always pre-cook the quinoa the night before so that the family can enjoy a healthy hot breakfast during the week to. The fun part about breakfast bowls is that you can create so many varieties to suit everyone’s palate. The kids can even make their own mash-up of mix-ins! It’s an easy swap! The choices are endless. Go ahead, play with your food, Mama says it’s okay. Which foods do you enjoy eating most on weekends?
