It’s that time again! Spring cleaning time! While we all enjoy the idea of a deep cleaned and organized home, few of us actually look forward to the act of spring cleaning. But don’t worry, spring cleaning doesn’t have to be difficult! To make things easier on you, here are 5 Tips for Spring Cleaning and Decluttering Your Home!
5 Tips for Spring Cleaning and Decluttering Your Home
The Plan
One of the best tips for spring cleaning your home is simply to plan your cleaning out. Whether you’re hoping to do it all in one day or are spreading the chores out over a week or a month, you need a plan. You need to know what supplies you need, what you want to do to each room, and when you want to do each task. Your plan can be as simple as numbered list of everything you need to do, or you can break tasks down by room, or by day. To make it easier on yourself, you may want to find and use an existing spring cleaning checklist. There are a lot of handy free ones available online!
Dig Deeper
Spring cleaning isn’t just about cleaning your home. It’s about deep cleaning your home. So it doesn’t do you any good if you pretty much just clean what you always do, plus a few extras. You need to look around and think, what haven’t I cleaned in a while? You’ll probably be surprised by what you discover! Depending on your cleaning schedule, it may have been a while since you scrubbed the inside of the refrigerator, sanitized the microwave, or washed the pillows (not the pillow covers, the actual pillow forms). Make sure to put all uncommon cleaning tasks, big or small, on your cleaning checklist to ensure a successful spring cleaning!
Trash or Treasure?
It’ll be hard to clean if there’s a lot of stuff in your way! Of the many tips for spring cleaning, one of the handiest is simply to declutter before you clean! Go through all the rooms, closets, drawers, and cupboards, and think “Do we really need this?” If your home is like most people’s there are plenty of things you don’t need anymore. Maybe there’s something extra that isn’t really necessary, or maybe there’s something old that isn’t needed anymore. If there’s any good reason why your family doesn’t need something, consider getting rid of it.
Storage is the Key
Spring cleaning time is the perfect time to reorganize! Whether you just move things about, or take advantage of the occasion and install some new storage systems, it’ll be easy to reorganize when you’re in spring cleaning mode! Depending on your budget you may just want to get a few new bins or baskets to help organize everything. Or maybe you can DIY a nice shelving unit. You don’t need to spend hundreds on a full professional storage solution to have a nice organized home!
One Task at a Time
Even if you have a plan, spring cleaning can be pretty overwhelming. One of the most helpful tips for spring cleaning is to just take it task by task. Yes, there’s likely a lot you’re hoping to get done in the time you allotted yourself. But don’t worry. What’s the worst that would happen if it took an extra day or week? Don’t overwhelm yourself, and focus on doing one thing at a time. If you work on cleaning your home piece by piece, you’ll be done before you know it!
