Another Thursday night means another movie night at Mama’s house. This weeks feature presentation was the upcoming in home release of The Good Dinosaur movie sent to us for review by Disney-Pixar. Several months back we were invited to watch a screening of it in theaters prior to its release – and I enjoyed a one on one date night with Em for that one. However, she insisted that everyone needed to see it, especially her sister – she always wants AB to see and do everything with her, isn’t she the sweetest? Unless of course she wants something to herself and only herself. The Good Dinosaur movie review night she was willing to share.

Synopsis: “The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo (voice of Raymond Ochoa) makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
Voice Cast: Jeffrey Wright (“The Hunger Games”) as Poppa, Frances McDormand (“Madagascar 3”) as Momma, Marcus Scribner (“Black-ish”) as Buck, Raymond Ochoa (“Melissa & Joey”) as Arlo, Jack Bright (“Monsters University”) as Spot, Steve Zahn (“Dallas Buyers Club”) as Thunderclap, AJ Buckley (“Happy Feet”) as Nash, Anna Paquin (“Jane Eyre“) as Ramsey; and Sam Elliott (”Hulk“) as Butch.
The Good Dinosaur Movie Review According To Mama
The movie was extremely cute, with lots of great lessons, like reasons not to judge a book by its cover. I will say though that while Em thoroughly enjoyed the movie, there we several scenes that were frightening for her (under 4 years of age.) I feel like children under 2 with any sort of attention span and children over 8 years old are best suited for this movie with scenes such as Spot witnessing the death of his father. While there was nothing grotesque about the scene, there was a mind chilling blank stare coming from Poppas eyes as he fell – this part creeped me out a bit. There were a few dark scenes during which Em jumped into my lap which lends to the lessons in the film, such as overcoming your fears. Many of the scenes, the animation, looked so real and I was captivated by the beauty of it. If you have a dinosaur lover at home, they will most definitely love the film but you may want to watch it first. Tear-jerker warning, make sure you have tissues on hand.
