Every morning it’s the same thing. Get up – not willingly, bathroom, coffee, kids, breakfast. Not in that particular order necessarily. Mamas best friend in the morning is coffee and cereal. The girls love to snack on cereal and if given the opportunity would do it day and night. But I can imagine that the same old cereal flavor can get pretty boring, even for kids. So I’ve partnered with General Mills to help my family breakout of our flavor rut by taking the Cheerios Challenge!
So how does breaking out work? It’s real simple, all you need to do is print this Cheerios BOGO FREE coupon, head over to Publix and let General Mills & Cheerios treat you to a free box of cereal when you purchase either the Original or Honey Nut variety. Did someone say FREE? So you mean that for buying something I already buy anyway, I can get something else for FREE??? Um, yup! It’s time for you to break out of your flavor rut and try one of the many other tasty flavors Cheerios has to offer like: Banana Nut, Frosted, Multi-Grain Dark Chocolate, Multi-Grain Peanut Butter or Apple Cinnamon.
The girls love peanut butter and apples, so naturally I grabbed two Original Cheerios and one Multi-Grain Peanut Butter and an Apple Cinnamon. I figured we could mix things up and maybe try a trio for our next breakfast bowl or snack cup for a surprise with every bite. We love creating breakfast recipes together and finding new ways to incorporate our favorite foods into them. Forever thankful for Publix and their exclusive savings for helping me stock up on Cheerios, our girl’s favorite breakfast and snack cereal!
While the girls were at camp I grabbed the Cheerios I recently purchased and some crafting pipe cleaners. The girls love to create all sorts of crafts so they were going to have a blast with this idea I came up with for their next snack time. Using the pipe cleaners we made bracelets, necklaces and even stick figures, using the pipe cleaners like string to hang the different flavored Cheerios on.
There are no rules to creating these fashionable and edible pieces from Cheerios, except to mix it up with your choice of flavors from the Cheerios Challenge! After craft/snack time was over and dinner was served, eaten and cleaned up, I headed into my office to catch up on some work. My darling Em brought me a snack – she had turned the stick man (Mr. Cheerio) into a starfish. I think he’s kind of cute and might just keep him around for a while to keep me company.
The great thing about these fun snack time ideas is that you can make them in advance and have them ready for the kids at snack time. The bracelets require just one pipe cleaner, but you will need at least two pipe cleaners for the necklace. Simply string on your Cheerios while alternating flavors and then connect the opposite ends on another pipe cleaner to complete the necklace. For Mr. Cheerio you will need to have three pipe cleaners handy; create an X out of two of the pipe cleaners and twist them around each other just twice in the middle so you have a solid X. Add your Cheerios Challenge flavors to the “legs” and leaving an inch of space at the end; which you will fold over in half to keep the Cheerios from falling off. Once you’ve completed all four legs, take your other piece of pipe cleaner, create a U and use the ends to secure around the X middle meeting point where you twisted the others. You’ve now created your own Mr. Cheerio!
Here’s another quick Cheerios breakfast recipe we’ve played with: Next time you are sitting down for a bowl of cereal, swap your milk for some plain or vanilla yogurt instead. The girls love this. The Cheerios give the yogurt extra crunch. Want more recipes? Make your next yogurt parfait using Cheerios instead of granola. These quick and easy swaps make breakfast new again!
