A few years ago I shared my experience of giving birth to a preemie. I meant to continue the story with a part 2, but life happened. Well, most of the rest of the story goes like this. Anabelle arrived as perfect as can be, weighing in at a whopping 3lbs 13oz. Other than the need to gain weight, she had to learn to maintain her temperature. She had some trouble with keeping her temperature up, and this kept her in the NICU for 54 days.

When Preemie was born, the NICU nurses repeatedly expressed to us how important touch was. Our touch would not only bring Preemie comfort, but it would help her thrive and grow. Who knew there was So Much More to it than just a nurturing show of affection.

Prematurity is a serious issue. Far too many babies are born far too early. Some have complications that carry on through out their lives, others are more fortunate.
Mama’s Mission welcomes you to the December 2013 Carnival of Natural Mothering!
When I gave birth to my son I was young and naive. When I had my daughter 15 years later I was nervous and afraid. I attempted it but only part time. Seems like baby number 3 has really brought out the natural mother in me.
Maybe it’s because I knew I HAD to. Maybe because the other option was potentially having someone else doing it.
After almost 2 months in the NICU our baby is finally home. Last night we got the news that there was a possibility that our Preemie would be coming home today.
I didn’t want to get my hopes up in case it wouldn’t come to fruition. We’ve been waiting for this day for so long, yet we were far from prepared. No bassinet, no diapers, if she was really coming home we were in trouble.
We were asked to bring in her car seat so she could take her final test before being released.
