What if you could kick start a revolution of acceptance through kindness and love without judgment? An open mind and heart can change an entire generation. During a time when the world feels like it’s spinning off its handles – we could all benefit from some hippie love. What the world needs is another revolution of love, peace, and acceptance. Jesus Revolution – “It’s not something to explain, it’s something to be experienced,” and shows you what an open door can do for the world. When times are tough, and life is hard, what or who do you lean on?
Faith, Love, and Forgiveness
I’ve shared before in previous posts that I did not grow up in a religious home. I knew what religion we were, but that was pretty much the extent of it, save for a few attempts from religious leaders in our community to help guide families like mine back to faith. As a Mama to three children, I know the importance of faith, and recall moments from my childhood when the power of faith gave me strength and hope in the weakest of moments.
The counterculture movement of the Jesus Revolution in the 70s was before my time, so I can only imagine the relief in the air in finding what you may not have known you needed. Jesus Revolution made me laugh and cry and even brought me chills. It reminded me not to lose my faith that G-d has a plan for all of us, a special path in life to find our truths.
One scene in the movie that stood out tremendously was the baptisms at Pirates Cove. You could feel the energy through the screen of what that experience must have felt like. My soul yearned for the experience of feeling calm, cleansed, and nourished all at the same time. This has committed me to exploring the mitzvah of mikvah in my own faith. Through these baptisms, I was able to feel and envision what leaders in my community had been trying to explain to me.
In observance of my faith, I began to light candles on Friday nights with my children several years ago. I find a certain kind of peace and tranquility comes during that moment of prayer. Faith helps to ground and humble you. In my house of worship, no one is judged by how they look, who they are, or how often they attend services. It is through my faith that I have a new family, people that we can turn to when we need to be reminded that we are worthy of love. Jesus Revolution reminds people to love openly, take accountability for their actions, and, most importantly, that everyone deserves a second chance.
