Whether you are visiting Miami for vacation or living here, the place where others vacation, there are so many fun free things to do in Miami! From family events, children’s events, to adult events, there is always someplace and something you can do, no matter who you are with!
Free Things to do in Miami
Take a ride on the Metromover
Move throughout downtown Miami on the Metromover. It’s free, and stops at 20 different places in Miami. You can hop on and off as much as you’d like while visiting lots of great places throughout downtown Miami.
Visit the Miami Art Museum
The Miami Art Museum offers free admission from 1PM until 4PM on the second Saturday of each month, for families with children. You’ll create art, while learning something new with each visit! During the spring, enjoy games and art activities at the Miami Art Museum Family Festival.
Enjoy art at the Gables Art Walk and Wynwood Art Walk
If you love art, you’ll love the Gables Art Walk! Explore unique and inspiring art galleries between 7PM and 10PM on the first Friday of every month. A free trolley takes you between galleries, and you could easily spend your entire evening there! For grownups: some of the art galleries offer complimentary wine samples. On the second Saturday of each month, visit the Wynwood Art Walk. It can be kind of confusing without a map, but it’s fun nonetheless.
Tour Little Havana
Little Havana is a bit south of downtown, and is full of art galleries and quirky little shops to visit. The Calle Ocho Walk of Fame – think Hollywood – is one of the attractions you’ll see when you’re wandering through Little Havana. Stop by the historic Tower Theater to see a free Latin American film in Spanish.
Family time at Biscayne National Park
On the second Sunday of every month (from December until April), take your family to enjoy the Biscayne National Park Family Fun Fest. It’s educational, and it’s fun…what more could we ask for?! Grab your “passport” and hop to each station to get it stamped. Get all five stamps and you’ll earn a free button for completing the adventure!
Explore the Miami Children’s Museum
The Miami Children’s Museum is free every third Friday of the month, from 3PM until 9PM. Explore hands-on art and culture exhibits. A few of our favorite exhibits include: My Green Home (learn about sustainability), Ocean Odyssey (900 gallon salt water tank exhibit), and the Castle of Dreams (a two-story sand castle). The Miami Children’s Museum is one of our favorite free things to do in Miami with the girls, they always have a blast. Don’t leave home without checking out Miami’s free museum days!
Adults only action at Casa Bacardi
Enjoy a free Casa Bacardi tour to see how rum is produced. You’ll get to sample some Bacardi, while listening to a story about their history. All guests must be at least 21 years of age and show valid identification.
Movie Date Night with at the Miami Beach SoundScape ExoStage
If you’re around on Wednesdays at 8PM, stop by and see an outdoor film at the Miami Beach SoundScape. The locals rate this as one of the top free things to do in Miami. At the Miami beach SoundScape they play a mix of classic and new films on their 7,000 foot projection wall. The new calendar of movie listings for the year was just updated so be sure to check it out!
There is so much local cheap and free things to do in Miami with kids that will keep your family busy! Have you had a chance to visit any of these places before? Have any favorites I missed, let me know!

We’ve visited Florida several times, but always in the St. Pete/Tampa/Clearwater areas. But I’ve wanted to see Miami since the 80s, when I was a little obsessed with Miami Vice, lol.
I love visiting Clearwater! We always go to Pier 60 and enjoy the sunset, as well as watching the street performers.
I’ve never been to Miami but would love to visit, thanks for the article on places to check out if I ever get down there!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I have been to South Beach and it is pretty but I wouldn’t go there a second time.
These are all fun things to do while in Miami. Thank you for sharing and have an awesome day!!!
