Miami is such a wonderful place live or visit. Not only does this city have the best of Florida weather, it also has a ton of things you can do! Whether you’re a Miami native or just visiting, here are a few free and cheap local things you can do with your kids in Miami.
Miami-Dade Public Library
The Miami-Dade Public Library System is a great way to spend a day with the kids. You can escape the heat and spend a day exploring different books with your kids. If you live in Miami, you can get a free library card to check out books, movies and more! The MDPLS also has a ton of children’s programs available, all of which are either free or cheap.

Indoor Playground
Miami is known for rainy days…Sometimes it only lasts a few minutes, but it can also last for hours. Being stuck at home with little ones is no fun. You can head over to the Aventura Mall to hang out with your little ones, under 42″, free at Rainbow Valley where they are free to explore the fun Rainbow Valley indoor playground. With a supervising adult over 18, kids are welcome to explore. Parents and kids must wear socks to enter. Rainbow Valley was created by Miami based artists Sam Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III.

Local Museum Pass
In addition to all the free children’s programs offered by the Miami-Dade Public Library System, residents can also use their library cards to check out a museum pass. This gives you free access to local museums, such as the Miami Children’s Museum, Miami Science Museum, Zoo Miami and more! You and your children will love exploring these interactive museums, all for free.

Nature Centers
If you’re looking for something to do in Miami, take advantage of the beautiful Florida weather and visit your local nature center. Many of the local nature centers allow free access to the trails, walkways, and picnicking areas. If you’d like to have an adventure while visiting the nature center, you can usually rent equipment for the day at a reasonable price.

We don’t live that far from Miami. This would make a fun weekend for us. Thank you so much for sharing this
Hi! I’ll be in Miami for 3 days before a cruise.
I have daughters that are 8 and 10 years old.
Will they get bored driving to Key West?
Recommend stop(s) along the way? Dedicating a full morning-day-night – a full day for the drive……
Thx!!!?
There are some good restaurants along the way once you enter the Keys. Yelp would be super helpful to look at. We love Islamorada.
