Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Broadway Musical

Closing out my partnership with Broadway in Fort Lauderdale for the 2015-2016 season was the timeless classic tale of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Broadway Musical. I was invited to attend the opening night and was excited to bring Emily with me to see one of her favorite Disney stories live on stage.

A must see for Disney fans of all ages. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast on stage is spot on to the original movie and a story that children know well. One of the first things Emily said excitedly was “I know this story!” Emily was thrilled to see her favorite Disney tale on stage and sat through the entire evening performance glued to the stage. She did get a little antsy waiting to see Belle appear in her beautiful yellow gown, and was over the moon when it happened. She also requested a Belle dress for herself and was upset with me that I hadn’t dressed her in costume to see the show – so take note, make sure your princesses are dressed appropriately for the occasion.

All of the costumes were beautiful. I recognized at least one returning cast member, Ryan N. Phillips as Lumiere and Samuel Shurtleff as Cogsworth, who happened to play off each other very well. Belle, played by Brooke Quintana had a beautiful singing voice. I wasn’t too impressed with Christiaan Smith-Kotlarek’s role of Gaston, but then again I wasn’t a huge fan of Gaston with last years cast either. Sam Hartley as Beast did a great job as did Stephanie Gray as Mrs. Potts and Matt Dasilva as Gaston’s sidekick LeFou, who seemed quite natural in his role. All in all a great production.

The musical numbers were easy to sing along to, especially the unforgettable “Be Our Guest” and title song “Beauty and the Beast”.

Based on the Academy Award®-winning animated feature film, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is an eye-popping spectacle that has won the hearts of over 35 million people worldwide. This classic musical love story is filled with unforgettable characters, lavish sets and costumes, and dazzling production numbers including “Be Our Guest” and the beloved title song.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is the classic story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped in a spell placed by an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
