Earth Day at The Wynwood Yard
The Wynwood Yard exemplifies and celebrates earth and community daily with events and tastemakers that embrace the significance of our precious planet. Join The Yard for its second-annual Earth Day at The Wynwood Yard on Saturday, April 21st from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and get connected with your cosmos with events for the entire family dedicated to and in honor of our beautiful Earth. Admission is free with RSVP: http://bit.ly/EarthDayTWY
The Yard’s Earth Day celebration is an occasion to applaud our collective accomplishments in sustainability and learn how we can further improve and promote this most important endeavor. In this vein, The Yard invites you to join in on the fun, hands-on, educational workshops and activities for the entire family from a plant-based baking cooking class ($20) with Chef Pamela Wasabi (maker of some of Miami’s most beloved cookies) to an enlightening Tip to Tail Cooking demo with Miami Smokers, where you’ll learn tips from the pros themselves on how to avoid wasting valuable and delicious food. Also, learn how to make your own easy and tasty trail mix bar with Whole Foods Market.
Shake your bones and fuel your body with a live musical performance by Yard artist-in-residence and singer-songwriter Keith Johns, a full body Yoga for Mama Earth experience with Dawn B. and Ahana Yoga and many more experiences for the body, mind and soul. Meet local organizations and small businesses like Surfrider Foundation, Zoom Blooms and Urban Green Works sharing tips through workshops and demos that will be free or low-cost for all to enjoy together. Shop earth-friendly products from local producers and artisans. All ages are welcome!
As part of The Yard’s commitment to our shared Earth, modeling sustainability and increasing its green efforts, The Yard has raised funds to expand its urban organic garden run by Little River Cooperative, has also banned the use of plastic straws, introduced a reusable cup program and hosts frequent monthly community clean-up events with local organizations such as Debris Free Oceans and Surfrider Foundation. You too can become a part of the solution! Learn how you can get involved by visiting the on-site panel on advocacy while you’re at The Yard on Earth Day.
In addition, make your mark towards a greener Earth by bringing #5 plastics to be recycled by Whole Foods and made into toothbrushes sold at their stores! Miami Rescue Mission (my favorite charity!) helps you with your spring cleaning by collecting your gently-used clothing and while you are at it, peruse the grounds for sustainable clothing you’ll feel brand new in from Respect the Fin. Allapattah Candle Co. will collect your used (but clean, please!) jars to recycle into new aromatic candle holders that will be available for purchase at The Yard’s Little River Garden Box.
While The Wynwood Yard’s official Earth Day festivities wind down at 4 p.m., you can carry on with a collaborative community cleanup event starting at 4:30 p.m. in partnership with Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter and Debris Free Ocean. This special Earth Day edition of The Yard’s monthly cleanup marries sustainability concepts The Yard is passionate about: community coming together for the greater good to reduce our carbon footprint, sourcing locally, composting, minimizing single-use plastics and picking up the trash trail that eventually makes its way from city centers, harming marine life and water quality. Afterward, join Green Drinks to engage in a discussion about climate change at 7 p.m. under the della bowls tent.
