5 Health Benefits of Garlic

Prior to the creation of modern medicine, garlic had been used by various cultures for thousands of years to improve health and treat disease. Nowadays, most people just use it to add flavor to food. Fortunately, people are starting to once again become aware of the many health properties of garlic. And there are many! While raw garlic is the most beneficial, garlic in any form contains dozens of helpful nutrients! You probably don’t know about these 5 Health Benefits of Garlic!

5 Health Benefits of Garlic

Anti-cancer

One of the benefits of garlic is that it can prevent and help fight cancer! Eating garlic has been linked to a lower chance of developing lung cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, and others. It has also been found to help with destroying the cells of brain tumors. This is possibly because of the allicin in garlic. Allicin can fight free radicals, block carcinogens, and slow cancer cell growth.

Benefits Your Heart

Garlic is great for your heart! Just as free radicals can cause cancer, they can also damage your heart. Garlic fights those free radicals. It also helps maintain artery elasticity, keeps arteries clear, and reduces the formation of blood clots. Healthy arteries and blood mean a healthy heart!

Boosts Your Immune System

One of the best benefits of garlic is that it helps boost your immune system! This is the result of all the wonderful nutrients found in garlic, including potassium and sulfuric compounds. To get the most of those nutrients, you really should eat garlic raw. It shouldn’t be dried or cooked. When garlic is raw it retains the benefits of its sulfur enzymes, but when it’s cooked these benefits get reduced. So if you feel a cold coming on, try to add some raw garlic to your next meal!

Reduces Blood Pressure

Whether you have high blood pressure or not, garlic can help keep your blood pressure at safe levels. This is because of garlic’s allicin and all its amazing properties. But to get these effects, you need to eat a lot of garlic, about four cloves each day. And you need to eat that amount daily over many weeks. An easy way to get that garlic each day is to make your own garlic salad dressings, to put it in your mashed potatoes or guacamole, or to make garlic bread!

Aids Weight Loss

Another of the many benefits of garlic is that it can help you lose weight! This doesn’t happen because garlic is able to burn up fat for you. Instead, garlic helps by increasing your metabolism, flushing fat from cells, flushing excess water from your body, and regulating your blood sugar (which reduces how much fat your body chooses to store). All this indirect assistance means you lose weight easier!

Do you like to eat garlic? I try to add garlic into each meal when it makes sense to do so, not just for the flavor, but for its health benefits.

  • Thanks so much for the Fantastic Review on 5 Health Benefits of Garlic! I like garlic in certain dishes that I make, however, I cannot take a real garlic clove and eat it! The garlic flavor is too strong for me! I didn’t realize all the benefits that garlic has. I’ll try to keep it in as many recipes as I can. It would not only benefit me, but my husband as well! We both have blood pressure problems and I’m a diabetic and just got a call from my doctor that my “numbers” are out of wack and need to see him asap! Thanks so much for sharing this fantastic review and your personal & professional opinions on 5 Health Benefits of Garlic with all of us! I honestly do truly appreciate it! Thanks again so very much! • We use garlic for everything, in sauces, salads, bread and just to eat. I always take garlic capsules for medicinal purposes and they are great for allergies.
