Ah!thentic Italian Pizza - Marco's Pizza
As a foodie I try to follow all the fun food holidays. It helps me make excuses for reasons I should eat a lot of something on any particular day. March 26th happened to be National Spinach Day and we celebrated it by eating spinach in a whole new way. It was all thanks to Marco’s Pizza as they recently introduced two new menu items.

Have you ever had fresh spinach on your pizza? As much as I love spinach and even use it as an alternative to lettuce in my salads and sandwiches, I just never thought of it as a pizza topping. Sure I’ve had a spinach pizza before, a lot of times actually, but from what I can recall it was definitely canned spinach mixed with ricotta cheese. Fresh spinach however is a whole new ball game. I can definitely taste the difference between fresh and canned.

The night before we left for Orlando last week was a busy night. We had so much left to do to prepare for our trip. We hadn’t even pack yet! To make things easier on ourselves and give the family a special treat, we made it a Family Pizza Night.

Papa Bear called Marco’s Pizza and placed our order over the phone for pickup. The pizza guy told him we were in luck as they had JUST received the fresh spinach. The pizza guy even asked if we preferred it cooked with the cheese pizza or placed on top afterwards.

The Fresh Spinach Cheese Pizza was cooked to perfection. We opted to have the spinach cooked with the pizza. I was delighted that the cooking process gave the pizza some extra flavor and the spinach itself had a crisp to it. The pizza was even served with a side of garlic sauce.

marcosgrilledchickenflorentinepizzaThe new Grilled Chicken Florentine Pizza has everything I love, conveniently baked into and intertwined with cheese. Thick tender grilled chicken, parmesan garlic sauce, four cheeses, fresh spinach, sliced tomatoes and chopped red onions. What I loved most was that there was no pizza sauce. Whenever I order pizza I usually ask for light or no sauce. Papa Bear ordered these pies and I totally forgot to tell him. Fortunately for me Marco’s Pizza was ahead of the game.

Each medium-sized pizza will feed 3-4 people. With four of us eating two medium-sized pizzas we had plenty of it to go around. Em loves green vegetables so she went straight for the Fresh Spinach Pizza. We allow Em to enjoy a treat of pizza from time to time, but knowing that she was still getting her fill of veggies made this a bonus for the Mama in me.

Marco’s Pizza has a new fan in me with their awesome combination of Italian and Mediterranean flavors in the Grilled Chicken Florentine Pizza and the use of fresh veggies like Fresh Spinach. The dough is made daily and all the ingredients are fresh. They even use a three cheese blend on their pizzas which for a cheese lover like myself is being served dessert for breakfast. You won’t find any frozen items at Marco’s Pizza.

What toppings do you like on your pizza?

  • Why doesn’t pizza ever look like this in Ireland? I’ve tried all the take-outs in my area as well as fresh & frozen varieties but they just don’t come up to scratch! Ah, the joys of living in the middle of nowhere: great scenery, lousy pizza!

  • I love spinach on my pizza, but never been to Marco’s. I don’t have an excuse not to go there since I live in Ohio. I differ with you on the opinion of pizza sauce, but I learned National Spinach day is a day before my birthday.
